Summary of Analysis

Of all the analysis that was done on the project, the most important ones that were done on the support arm because it's the central point of the entire project. It not only supports the weight of the mirror holder but is also the main component that connects the mirror holder to the body of the EV. The results of the analysis showed that the highest shear stress that it would have would come from the side, this was calculated to be 2446 psi. The shear force on the support arm would be around 200 lbs. across the body of the support arm. The distance from the EV the mirror would have to be is 6.5 inches at the least.

One analysis that was done to meet one of the set requirements was the ideal length of the mirror support arm. This was actually important because per the electrathon rules, the driver has to be able to see behind the vehicle. As well as Washington State guidelines says drivers have to be able to see up 200 feet behind their vehicles. At first the the support arm was only going to be 5.5 inches in total length. However, upon analysis it was realized that the best option and view for the driver would be that the mirror itself had to be at least centered at 6.5 inches, meaning the support arm had to be that long. The length of the support didn't seem to be important, but it became important once the visual aspect of the mirrors came into play.
